A senior Queensland cop is facing criminal charges after pulling his gun on a speeding motorist - but is still demanding to be paid while he is suspended. The video is part of a collection of clips tendered to a civil hearing before a judge in the Supreme Court as the now-suspended policeman fights to have his pay reinstated.

The first video shows Senior Constable Stephen Flanagan driving on the Landsborough Highway on the outskirts of Longreach before he spots a ute driving 126 kilometres per hour in a 110kph zone. It was tendered by lawyers for Police Commissioner Ian Stewart in an affidavit responding to Flanagan's application. The video shows Flanagan trying to use his horn to pull the driver over while his siren is off.

"F****** pull over now c***," he said to himself after honking.

The driver slows down, drives off, then pulls over again amid more honking.

The dashcam shows Flanagan emerging from the police car, pointing a gun at the driver saying: "Get out of your f****** car right now."

Also tendered to court was a smartphone recording made by the driver's partner as she sat in the ute.

"What the f*** are you pulling here today?" Flanagan said to her partner.

"You came past me - I'm bloody beeping the horn up the side to point you over and you still keep driving.

"What is your f****** story? Do you have a licence?

"You didn't see me? Right, where's your licence dickhead?"

The driver was then handcuffed while Flanagan checked his registration but was released a short time later when the senior constable realised it was not a stolen car as he first assumed. The couple later filed an official complaint prompting the immediate suspension of Flanagan. He was also charged with assault and deprivation of liberty after an investigation by the Ethical Standards Command. But Flanagan said withholding pay during his suspension was unfair. In his application to court, Flanagan said he thought the car was stolen and he had not realised his sirens were not on.

In submissions, senior police management said it stood by its decision and tendered another video of Flanagan in a separate incident on the Gold Coast in 2013 in which he was stood down for failing to treat a driver with appropriate dignity and respect. In this video, he pulled a driver over on the M1 motorway for allegedly speeding.

"You're doing 150 and you're driving like an absolute c*** mate," he said.

"No, I wasn't," the driver replied.

As the driver explained his actions, his keys were thrown to the ground.

"We'll go to court and I'll sit there and drink coffee and laugh my ass off while you get convicted, how's that sound?" Flanagan said.

Flanagan will face court on the criminal charges in relation to the Longreach incident later this week while the Supreme Court decides on the outcome of his pay. Under the suspension order, he is still allowed to find casual work for the time being.

The Australian Shepherd, often known simply as the "Aussie", is a medium-sized breed of dog that was, despite its name, developed on ranches in the Western United States, during the 19th century.[2][3][4]

There are different theories regarding the association of the breed with Australia, but there is no consensus on why it was adopted.[5] Genetic research has found that Australian Shepherds and Border Collies are closely related to each other; both are slightly more distantly related to other kinds of Collies and to Shetland Sheepdogs.[6]

Australian Shepherds rose in popularity with a boom in Western riding,[why?] after World War II.[7] They became known to the general public through rodeos, horse shows, and Disney movies made for television.

For many years, Aussies have been valued by stockmen for their versatility and trainability. They have a similar look to the popular English Shepherd and Border Collie breeds. While they continue to work as stock dogs and compete in herding trials, the breed has earned recognition in other roles due to their trainability and eagerness to please and are highly regarded for their skills in obedience.[8] Like all working breeds, the Aussie has considerable energy and drive and usually needs a job to do. It often excels at dog sports such as dog agility, and frisbee. They are also highly successful search and rescue dogs, disaster dogs, detection dogs, guide dogs, service dogs, and therapy dogs. They are considered the 17th-most popular dog breed in the United States.[9]

The breed is typically highly energetic, requiring a great deal of exercise and attention.[8] An Australian shepherd enjoys working, whether it is learning and practicing tricks, competing in dog agility, or engaging in any other physically and mentally involving activity.[13]

Dogs may show reserved and cautious guarding behaviors. They are kind, loving, and devoted to those they know. They are very loyal to their owners, and are rewarding dogs if treated well.[13] Because the breed was developed to serve on the ranch, a job which includes being protective of its property, it is inclined to bark warnings about neighborhood activity. It is not inclined toward obsessive barking.

The Aussie is intelligent, learns quickly, and loves to play.[14] This means that a bored, neglected, unexercised Aussie may invent its own games, activities, and jobs, which to a busy owner might appear to be hyperactivity: for example, an Aussie may go from being at rest to running at top speed for several "laps" around the house before returning to rest. Without something to amuse them, Aussies can become destructive. Aussies also do best with plenty of human companionship: they are often called "Velcro dogs" for their strong desire to always be near their owners and for their tendency to form intense, devoted bonds with select people.[13]

The Australian Shepherd has a reputation as a highly intelligent and versatile stock dog with a range of working styles.[15] A good working Aussie is quick, thoughtful, and easy with its stock. The ability for the breed to adapt to the situation and to think for itself makes it an excellent all-around worker. For this reason, the Aussie is often chosen to work unusual livestock such as ducks, geese, and commercially raised rabbits.

These dogs require a minimum of two to three hours a day of play, exercise, and attention. They thrive in rural, ranch-like conditions, and need space to run and play in an urban setting. The Australian Shepherd is a high-spirited dog, that requires much attention and work. Teaching them tricks keeps them focused and happy, which also keeps their minds working. The breed also has great stamina and can live in a variety of terrain. Because of this, they are popularly used as trail and working dogs.[14]

Daniel:
Ohhh well it's really quite funny I was, I was in bed sleepin' at ahhh 2'o'clock this mornin' me wife comes in and says: "Ohhh the shops been, ahhhh, someone ran into the shop!" And I said "Oooahhhh what!?"
So aahhh I jumped outta bed and all I had was me undies on and I've walked out the front and I seen ahhh the car smashed and I seen the bloke walkin' back to the car! And so I've walked outside and I said "Oahhh whatayadoin' mate!? Like, ya can't be leavin' the scene," and he goes "Don't be a hero mate," and I said "I'm not tryna be a hero, but the police are commin'," and he just decided he'd scoot up the road and I just said "Naahh it's not goin' on like that mate."
So I jumped in me car and I started chasing him up the road and then he went down a side street and then the police were commin' and I flashed them and sent them off in the direction of him, but MATE, all I had was me jocks on and I was chasin' him up the street and I'm just like "MATE, LIKE!"

Reporter: Because you told me this is your mates shop and you didn't want him to get away?

Daniel:
"Yeah, nah, nah. It's it's well it's me mates mums had this shop for like forty odd years, and ahh, look at it. Look at it!

Reporter:
It's a mess isn't it?

Daniel:
Beyond a mess! Oohh well like, words can't explain how it is mate, like.

Reporter:
Now Daniel you've managed to put some pants on in the meantime.

Daniel:
Yeah mate hahah.

Reporter:
That's good to hear. Do you feel like a hero?

Daniel:
Ohhh, well not really it's just somethin' you gotta do for the community mate. It's like you look after your mates and your mates'll always look after you.
